ThrowThemBows.com EXCLUSIVE - David Hojak Interviews Round 5 MMA's Damon Lau
Round 5 President Damon Lau: Recently spoke with ThrowThemBows.comRound 5 MMA has recently announced the release of four more action figures in their Champions of MMA series, via exclusively signed deals with Mixed Martial Arts athletes in various promotions. This last week, President at Round 5 MMA, Damon Lau, sat down with David Hojak to talk about the company’s progress over the past few short months.
Round 5 exploded onto the scene last year with a strong first-showing, signing eight of the sport’s highest- profile Mixed Martial Artists to distribution deals allowing Round 5 to create caricature-stylized miniature action figures of their real-life likenesses. The UFC almost immediately thereafter made their own intentions to distribute an action-figure line known. Interestingly enough, the UFC was quick to debut “concept” action figures that in multiple instances indicated fighters who’d been signed to exclusive deals by Round 5.
Damon Lau, is a kind man who took a chance, and has run with it this far up to this point. He was happy to take some time to speak to Mr. Hojak regarding their upcoming advances, other fighters who’ve been signed to have action figures created, and what we can look forward to from Round 5 in the near future and beyond.
Damon Lau describes himself as a long-time MMA fan of about ten years, and he talks in this interview about meeting Randy Couture through work he was doing for his agency at the time, where the idea for the action figures was first somewhat conceived.

His business models benefit both the company putting out the product, and the fighters their product portrays, as Round 5 allows fighters to sell sponsorship space right there on the trunks and clothing of their fighters, and keep the proceeds earned as a result.
Lau also takes the time to talk about the UFC’s own line of action figures, currently slated for release in the fourth quarter of this year, by which time Lau anticipates Round 5’s sixth series will be released. He notes that Jakks is losing their WWE merchandising contract at the end of this year, and foresees the scope of movement by competitors such as Jakks changing in the immediate future to maintain production despite losing such a huge line of business.
Lau covers everything from how long he’s known about The Jakks/UFC prototypes, to how many fighters are currently contracted with Round 5 MMA, to plans to unveil new types of action figures related to MMA that differ from those currently offered, yet expand on their already tremendous offerings for fans and lovers of the sport.
ThrowThemBows.com thanks Damon Lau, Jerry Milani, and everyone at Round 5 MMA for setting aside time in their busy days to talk to us.
